QUESTION: I am going on a long-awaited vacation in a few weeks. I will be missing for a couple of months. One of my friends told me that my insurance requires somebody watching over my house while I am away. Is it really so? And if it is, please tell me how often should somebody stop by my place?

ANSWER: That is true. Your friend is right. Your house needs to be checked three days after you’ve been away. This is a necessary condition that has to be done in order to protect your place from harm that could be caused by the heating or air-conditioning systems or if your plumbing freezes.
